We put the GALA into intergalactic in September in our show ‘Voyage to the Moon’, for a very special event in Monaco. Working for new client Sleek Events, we created a bespoke performance to accompany guests through their evening. From cocktail reception, through dinner, to the disco and dancing late into the night… We provided out-of-this world entertainment throughout.
The Show
It was a joy to work in the iconic Chapiteau of Monaco, a permanent big top space by the water. It is, of course, the perfect space for performing circus. We had room to play and technology at our fingertips. We also had the creative ambitions of Sleek’s Event Director Simon Tapping. Together, we created our four-part journey to the moon. A rocket launch, a space walk, a space goddess and finally a celebratory ‘Space Charivari’ to get everyone dancing.
Working with On the Sly‘s new music and Studio Giggle‘s video content, we created brand new acts.
Onsite our rigging team worked tirelessly in the venue. Alongside the French production team, they ensured language and legal differences were smoothed out, enabling the art to shine through.
Abby Grewcock designed and made our beautiful costumes. These included a full set of stage management suits for our ‘space crew’! We’ve worked with Abby a lot over the years – you can take a look at some of her other creations for us in our ‘Costumes that tell Stories’ blog post.
One highlight of the event was working for the first time with Ulik Robotic. Together we created a space walk duet between an acrobat and a giant robot arm. A totally unique, accomplished and memorable performance and we look forward to bringing them into our shows for future events.
Thank you all for your enthusiasm, professionalism, perseverance and positivity – the whole process from briefing meetings and teams, through the collaborative rehearsal process, to the efficiency and clarity of the onsite rehearsal process was a delight from start to finish, and a genuine pleasure to be part of.
