European Green Capital – Bridging the Gap
Client: Bristol City Council
Audience: 5000 live
Narrative: Our ambitious journey to sustainability
The brief:
Create a highly visual, celebratory spectacle to launch Bristol’s year as European Green Capital. The show needed to be seen throughout the city, and to be site specific in a historic Bristol location. It also needed to visually launch the initiative logo, and bring together local, national and international artists whilst engaging local communities in a piece fitting for an international launch and that would be memorable for those watching and those involved.
We created a show incorporating a large scale high wire crossing between 2 historic harbourside warehouses, visible from various vantage points through the city. The high wire artist, international superstar Jade Kinder Martin, crossed the wire on a bicycle, with his partner Karine Mauffrey suspended beneath his wearing a custom dress made from recycled materials and lit fro within (green, of course!)
Supported by a new musical score by local composers, with local singers, beautiful video projections on the buildings by local video artists – and the creation of our LED Umbrellas to bring communities together and create the Green Capital logo on the ground far below the wire walker.
The crossing represented the journey that we all need to take, together, to achieve a sustainable way of living, and the ambitious pathway that Bristol was setting with the Green Capital initiatives.
