Do Your Thing

Having built our flying piano in 2023, we were itching to play with it again this year.

At the start of the year we were approached by Curated Place to bring some spectacle to Novum – a new festival in Newcastle this summer. They loved the idea of the flying piano and so we dreamed up a brand new show ‘Do Your Thing’ for them.

The Show

The show is joyful and participatory. As well as our famous piano, it features beautiful performances from pianist James Graham and singer Alba Torriset. Both artists are familiar with our piano, having worked with it on it’s maiden voyage at our Bestival finale show ‘All You Need is Love’ in 2023.

It also features some beautiful aerial moments from performer Rachel Kirby, and hat juggling by the talented Gracie Hill. They perform to a soundtrack of carefully selected tracks – with a live choir performing alongside them.

The joy of this daytime show is that it invites audiences to join in with singing and dancing. The live music, with singer and choir, and the use of well known songs such as Basement Jaxx’s ‘Do Your Thing’, and Elton John’s ‘Rocket Man’, encouraged some heart warming sing-a-long moments.

The Piano

The flying piano is a versatile piece of aerial equipment. It has a stregthened lid which allows for performers to sit atop it. With a black curtain underneath, Aerialists can be concealed beneath the piano for a ‘reveal’ moment when they drop down and perform trapeze, rope or silks acts suspended from it.

And of course a fabulous way to bring live music into a show!

It was absolutely joyous to work with the piano this summer and we’ve got several more plans for it up our sleeves in the coming months.
